The Podiatrist Chief of Staff detail is for the White City VA Medical Center. Not to Exceed 120 days. *If selected for this temporary detail, appointment may be extended or made permanent without further competition. If made permanent, candidate may be required to regularly travel or relocate to White City.

Duties

The Chief of Staff (COS) is the top executive for all Providers and serves as a key and equal member of the Facility Executive Leadership Team. They will participate in strategic planning, organizational assessment, program development, project management, budget planning/financial stewardship, executive decision making, policy determination and implementation strategies. Incumbent collaborates with other executives to ensure that policies and practices promote optimum patient care outcomes and efficiency. Major duties also include: Integrates new medical staff with other professional disciplines and functional areas in the mutual achievement of patient centered and organizational goals; Monitors and promotes compliance with VA regulations and professional standards, working to ensure that facility programs reflect the mission and priorities of the Facility, VISN 20, Veterans Health Administration (VHA) and VA; Serves as a professional liaison to other VA, federal, community, affiliate, media, congressional, and constituent organizations regarding clinical matters; Develops and maintains working relationships with affiliated medical schools and programs associated with the Medical Center, recruits certified licensed professional staff and ensures that staff practitioners are credentialed and privileged in accordance with VHA and Joint Commission (JC) requirements; Ensures medical staff are compliant with agency regulations, medical staff bylaws, rules and regulations, VA facility policies, JC standards and other appropriate regulations; Creates an environment of continuous quality improvement, within which programs and quality of care effectiveness are evaluated; Leads clinical staff to provide quality health care to each Veteran and embraces VHA's core values of integrity, commitment, advocacy, respect, and excellence. Additional duties, as assigned. VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm Telework: This position is eligible for ad-hoc telework only. Ad-hoc telework is defined as situational telework that is approved on a case-by-case basis. Examples of situational or ad-hoc telework include telework as a result of inclement weather, doctor appointment, or special work assignments. Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Qualifications

Podiatrist Basic Requirements Degree as a doctor of podiatric medicine, or its equivalent, from a school of podiatric medicine approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Approved schools are United States schools of podiatric medicine approved by the Council on Podiatry Education of the American Podiatry Association in the year in which the degree was granted. ~AND~ Completed, or currently completing, residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. VA Podiatrists involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status. Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, the Council on Podiatric Medical Education, in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or (2) Other residencies and training experiences, or their equivalents, which the local Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training. ~AND~ Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice Podiatry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia. Preferred Experience: Board Certification At least 5 years of experience in the practice of medicine. Documented CME credits as required by medical staff bylaws, rules and regulations. Current ACLS and BLS for Healthcare Providers. Demonstrated leadership skills in design and implementation of clinical programs. Demonstrated teaching ability. Demonstrated managerial experience in supervising administrators, nursing, and physicians. Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Ability to establish effective interpersonal relationships with all levels of health care system personnel. References: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-4 Podiatrist Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office. The full performance level of this vacancy is 15. Physical Requirements: Moderate lifting (15-44 pounds), light lifting (under 15 pounds), moderate carrying (15-44 pounds), light carrying (under 15 pounds), pushing 4 hours, reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, both hands required, walking 2 hours, standing 8 hours, near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4, far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other, hearing (aid permitted), mental and emotional stability.
