The primary purpose of this position is to provide full performance level work in constructing, installing, repairing, and modifying wood and wood substitute structures and items requiring close tolerance fit and structural soundness, and performing minor range of various surface preparation, which require fine finishes, stains and decorative effects.
Duties
Plans and lays out work form blueprints, sketches, drawings, specifications, and work orders in the construction and maintenance of installation facilities.
Independently applies skilled methods, techniques, and advanced shop mathematics to construct, install, repair, and modify a wide variety of structures and components.
Repairs and installs roofs consisting of asphalt, tiles, slate, roll roofing, felts, shingles and metal panels.
Repairs and install a wide variety of makes and models of locking devices; Prepares various surfaces of interior and exterior components of buildings and other structures by mechanically and chemically removing old paint and rust, fulling cracks, sanding, and applying fillers and base coats.
Cuts, forms, joins, assembles, and installs items and systems which have combined straight and curved edges or irregular curves, angles, and planes.

- May be required to be certified for working with and/or removing hazardous material.
- Exposure to toxic paints, chemicals, or other hazards may require occupational health examinations.
- The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
- Will be required to be placed on an on-call roster for after-hours response repair work.
- Emergency overtime may be required.
- The employee must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
- This is a Testing Designated Positions. The employee is subject to random drug testing.
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-4700 - General Maintenance and Operations Work Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision.

Physical Effort:
Uses hand and power tools and equipment that may require standing and holding tools in uncomfortable positions for extended periods. The work requires considerable bending, kneeling, and stooping. On-site work typically requires crawling, climbing on ladders, scaffolds, and rooftops. The work may be at extreme heights (such as water towers or tall buildings). Strenuous physical exertion is sometimes required when handling heavy and bulky materials such as sheets of plywood, doors, and other construction materials. May lift and move materials up to 24 pounds, unassisted, and occasionally lift or move heavier items with the assistance of lifting devices or other workers. Frequently requires lifting up to 100 pounds while carrying rolls of roofing felt, shingles, and asphalt.
Working Conditions:
Works inside shops and outside at job sites. In shops, is exposed to moderate or high noise levels from operating machinery, sawdust in the air, fumes, and hazards associated with carpentry, painting roofing trades. At job sites, may be exposed to weather conditions and hazards of working on and around scaffolds and ladders and are subject to cuts, bruises, and contusions, may occasionally be exposed the possibility of broken bones. My work in confined areas such as crawl spaces and attics that may be dusty and dirty. Working with asphalt results in exposure to unusually dirty conditions (permanent damage to clothes and shoes) and burns from hot asphalt. Uses protective devices, such as ear plugs, safety glasses, respirators, safety shoes, respirators, safety shoes, hard hats, coveralls, gloves, rain gear, and other protective gear are required, which are sometimes heavy and uncomfortable.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
