About the Position: This Health Technician (Optometry) is located at Defense Health Agency, Naval Branch Health Clinic Mayport, Optometry. Work conducted in an office setting, typical hours are from 7:00am-4:00pm.
This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce
Duties
Responsible for ordering of glasses by selecting military lens fabrication labs for non-occupational lenses for military and civilian fabricators for military and civil service personnel occupational glasses.
Perform a technical inspection is done by verifying the prescription of the lensometer, lens clock, visually inspecting to ensure frame, temple, bridge and lenses are clear of defects.
Coordinate the procurement of all glasses through the Naval Ophthalmic Support and Training Activity and the Naval Supply Center.
Prepare necessary requisition, including prescription specification to facilitate delivery of eyewear.
Orders contact lenses through Materials Management Department for the aviation contact lens program.
Makes appointments for all visual examinations.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 30 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which performing routine care for patients, obtaining medical and ocular history, performing visual acuity test, fitting and ordering of spectacles and utilizing specialized optometry testing equipment to aide in the treatment of optometry patients. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
