About the Position: This position serves as a Hearing Conservation Technician for the Naval Branch Health Clinic Mayport, FL. Responsible for reviewing all hearing tests conducted by civilian and military hearing conservation technicians. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) & Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) in Department of Defense (DoD) to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

Reviews all hearing tests conducted by civilian and military hearing conservation technicians and validates accuracy of data input. Identifies trends and recommends additional training of technicians or corrective action. Interfaces with serviced commands to ensure scheduling in a timely fashion to meet regulatory and mission requirements. Counsels individuals on test results and follow-up requirements as applicable. Provides technical expertise to serviced commands and individuals on the Hearing Conservation Program. Conducts baseline and monitoring hearing tests on personnel exposed to hazardous noise. Employs a standardized technique on a calibrated audiometer to measure and evaluate changes in hearing sensitivity. Interviews patients to obtain and record information on past noise exposure, known diseases and/or injuries that may affect hearing, and on demographic data. Fits and dispenses hearing protective devices for personnel exposed to hazardous noise. Perform otoscopic examinations to determine the presence or absence of obstructions or abnormalities of the ear canal and ear drum prior to the fitting procedure. Conducts periodic performance checks on audiometric equipment to ensure normal operation and performs biological calibration checks to meet the calibration requirements of the Hearing Conservation Program. Assists the operational audiologist as required.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Applicant must be able to obtain and maintain eligibility for Tier 3 clearance.
  • Mandatory Seasonal Influenza vaccination is required. - Incumbent will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations.

Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience performing any of the following which includes: Conduct baseline and monitoring hearing tests on personnel exposed to hazardous noise; employ a standardized technique on a calibrated audiometer to measure and evaluate changes in hearing sensitivity; fits and dispense hearing protective devices to personnel; perform otoscopic examinations to determine the presence or absence of obstructions or abnormalities of the ear canal and ear drum prior to the fitting procedure; Conduct daily performance checks on audiometric equipment to ensure normal operation; perform daily biological calibration checks to meet the calibration requirements of the Hearing Conservation Program; and assist the Senior Hearing Conservation Technician and/or the operational audiologist on all other phases of the Hearing Conservation Program. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
