These positions are located in the Division of Resolutions and Receiverships, Financial Services & Technology Branch, of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.  Trainees will perform a variety of duties and perform progressively more difficult assignments to gain increased knowledge of the work including participating in financial institution closings. Additional selections may be made from this vacancy announcement to fill identical vacancies that occur subsequent to this announcement.

Duties

Adheres to accounting policies, practices, and procedures of the Section, including system descriptions, accounting manuals, and various rules and regulations of the Corporation and other government agencies, including liquidation and receivership accounting practices. Assists management with resolving problems that arise in order for journal entries posted to the General Ledger. Assists management on adjusting differences with data integrity within prescribed General Ledger systems, automating manual processes, and coordinating and communicating system changes.  Systems include, but are not limited to the general ledger and accounting, asset management, asset servicing, liability and liquidation. Maintains good working relationships with staff members in government and accounting profession conducive to sound accounting practices and procedures. Provides technical advice and recommendations on accounting issues. Prepares accounting reports and provides supporting written documentation.

Qualifications

Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious/spiritual; community; student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. CG-07:  Applicants may qualify at the CG-07 level by one of the following: Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the 5 grade level or above in the Federal service.  Specialized experience is defined as experience applying generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) to record financial transactions and generate management and financial reports.  -or- Education: Completion of 1 full year of graduate level education.  Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.  -or-  Superior Academic Achievement: Applicants qualifying under must have completed (or expect to complete within 30 days from the closing date of the announcement) all the requirements for a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. SAA. is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average, or (3) honor society membership. Class standing -- Applicants must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses. Grade-point average (G.PA.)- Applicants must have a grade-point average of: 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 (''B" or better) as recorded on their official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B+" or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum. Grade-point averages are to be rounded to one decimal place. For example, 2.95 will round to 3.0 and 2.94 will round to 2.9. Membership in a national scholastic honor society recognized by the Association of College Honor Societies. -or- Combinations of education and experience: A combination of graduate level education and specialized experience as described above that together meet the qualification requirements for this position. CG-09:  Applicants may qualify at the CG-09 level by one of the following: Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the 7 grade level or above in the Federal service.  Specialized experience is defined as experience in applying generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) to record financial transactions; perform analyses of accounting data; and to generate and present management and financial data reports.  -or- Education: Applicants must possess a master's or equivalent graduate degree, or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, or LLB or J.D., if related. -or- Combinations of education and experience: A combination of graduate level education and specialized experience as described above that together meet the qualification requirements for this position.
