About the Position: Office located in a clinical area that is shared by other Medical Support Assistants in a partially close/open administrative area. Position is not telework eligible. Work hours range from 0600-1600 but will not exceed an 8 hour workday. Core hours are 0700-1600, however readiness missions may require support prior to 0700 one to two times a month.

Duties

Explain clinic/practice appointment procedures and priority of treatment to patients. Schedule routine or follow up appointments to ensure patients receive necessary treatment. Operate office automation equipment to perform clerical or record keeping duties. Operate a computer to use a variety of office software. Verify patient identity to comply with hospital policies and procedures. Prepare written communication in a clear and concise manner with correct grammar and punctuation. Promptly respond to customer issues. Greet and provide directions to assist patient visitors.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. This position requires a National Agency Check w/ Inquiries (NACI) background check.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination. A candidate selected to this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to annual seasonal influenza vaccination.
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
  • This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons in accordance with Army Regulation 40-562, Chapters 3 and 4.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) Training and Certifications from the American Heart Association and the American Red Cross within 6 months of hire.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service which includes documented/demonstrated experience performing work such as receptionist, record keeping, clerical, and administrative support functions that provided you with the knowledge of clinical procedures involving patient care that included duties such as receiving patients, scheduling appointments; maintaining charts, files, or records; providing information to patients, professional medical staff, and the general public and utilizing a personal computer and office automation software programs. OR Education: Successful completion of four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of by 60. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Computer SkillsInterpersonal SkillsManagement SupportPatient-focused Customer Service Time in Grade Requirement: Candidates may be advanced without time restriction to positions up to GS-5 if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee held within the preceding 52 weeks under his or her latest non temporary competitive appointment.
