This position is open to multiple locations within the Great Plains Area - Indian Health Service, Office of Environmental Health & Engineering (OEHE), Rapid City or Pierre District Office, Division of Clinical Engineering (DCE). The incumbent will report to the Supervisory Biomedical Equipment Support Specialist or designee.
Duties
Assists with evaluation, installation, service and repair of highly complex medical equipment and systems.
Communicate with clinical staff (physicians, nurses, technicians, etc.) as necessary to provide assistance and in-service training, setup, calibration, operation, and application of patient care equipment.
Provide written reports, attend meetings/seminars and other trainings to assure competency with patient care equipment.
Order parts/accessories as necessary to perform repair functions. Document the extent and cost of repairs, updates/upgrades, modifications and other services performed on the device. Test/classifies medical equipment in current use and determines serviceability and disposition.
Qualifications

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
GS-05: Four (4) year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree or Three (3) years, One (1) year of which was equivalent to at least GS-4.
GS-07: One (1) full year of graduate level education or Superior academic achievement or One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-5.
Examples of specialized experience at the GS-07 grade level
Select, install, modify, test and evaluate medical/dental equipment; Repair, calibration and preventive maintenance of medical/dental equipment ranging from blood pressure cuffs to computed tomography (CT) scanners.
GS-09: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or Two (2) full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related or One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-7.
Examples of specialized experience at the GS-09 grade level
Assist with evaluation, installation, service, and repair of highly complex medical equipment and systems; Purchase new medical equipment and inspect, operate and test medical equipment to determine whether it meets government specifications; Provide advice to clinical staff regarding new equipment, environment, available facilities, network requirements, purchasing and overall life cycle management.
GS-11: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or Three (3) full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related or One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-9.
Examples of specialized experience at the GS-11 grade level
Conduct preventive maintenance checks and service inspections of patient care equipment to include visual inspections, operational checks, electrical safety inspections, calibration, and performance verification; Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, overhaul, and surveillance testing of electronic components, medical equipment/systems and modifications based on official guidance; Provide written reports as necessary/required by policy and procedures.
