About the Position: This position is located in the Madigan Army Medical Center, Tacoma, Washington. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation.

Duties

Examine items and sets to be cleaned for completeness, damage, deterioration or imperfections, cracks, or pitting. Disassemble and reassemble equipment and complex instrumentation in order to conduct proper decontamination. Prepare individual surgical case carts with required surgical instrumentation for scheduled and emergent operative procedures. Produce computer generated pick-tickets and preference cards in order to prepare for a surgical or healthcare procedure. Prepare and distribute medical supplies and equipment used in all areas of the hospital. Track sterilization methods and cycles using an automated system in order to monitor expiration dates of stock.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• A pre-placement medical examination is required.
• Moderate to heavy lifting up to 40 pounds is required.
• Immunization screening is required.
• This position may include shift work (evenings, weekends, holidays).
• This position may require rotating shifts (i.e. work schedule that requires employees to continuously rotate from one shift to another at predetermined intervals).
• This position may require the incumbent to work weekends and/or holidays.
• Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes determining the best sterilization method to utilize in the sterilization of medical/surgical supplies or equipment and utilizing an electronic system to track the sterilization status of medical/surgical supplies or equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
