This position is part of the Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute, Bureau of Indian Education. As a Student Services Specialist you will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating academic support services through counseling, advising, tutoring, instruction, program development and execution to contribute to education goals and objectives of SIPI.

Duties

As a Student Services Specialist GS-1701-12, your typical work assignments may include the following under supervision: Oversees and coordinates academic support services through counseling, advising, tutoring, career pathways, instruction, program development, onboarding, transfer, and execution to contribute to the education goals and objectives of SIPI towards continuous program improvement. Responsible for planning, implementing, and supervising academic support counselors, tutoring, mental health and student counseling, career transfer, nurse, enrollment and career and workforce placement. Plans and administers the day-to-day operations of a range of academic support functions relative to academic student success, retention, persistence and completion. Plans and directs the provision of services such as academic support, career and academic advisement, first-year student and other retention programs, tutoring/testing/placement, onboarding, transfer, services related to accessibility and at-risk students, student crisis management, and co-curricular education programs. Provide one-on-one counseling and assist students through the use of resilience, motivational techniques, prevention, and intervention strategies, building cultural links, and non-cognitive, and academically works with faculty and staff. Plans and administers comprehensive academic advisement, career counseling, holistic student support, and/other related student support programs. Administer nonacademic program assessment with performance objectives, success criteria, and program review.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the qualification requirements contained in the OPM Standards. For this position, they are listed below. BASIC REQUIREMENTS: Degree: that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position. or Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in A above. In addition to meeting the Basic Requirement, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications requirements below. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. GS-12: Applicant must meet the basic education requirement and possess one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service with experience in Student Services/Student Affairs. This experience includes providing administering student services/student affairs programming or other educational programs in higher education; evaluating, and developing student centered policies and procedures for student success and development at a college or university; administer nonacademic program assessment through the development of measurable metrics for student-centered services for student success at a college or university; and knowledge of higher learning accreditation as applied to institutional and program assessment. Preferred Professional Certification: Clinical or mental health licensure in working with students or behavioral health. Only experience and education obtained by the closing date of this announcement will be considered. Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year (52 weeks) of service at the next lower grade level.

Education
