Duties

As a Maintenance Mechanic, you will perform the following duties: Constructs, alters, modifies, or repairs a wide range of features in buildings, quarters, and other facilities. Installs, modifies, or repairs new and existing utility, supply, and disposal systems and equipment. Paints, decorates, and refinishes a variety of interior and exterior surfaces of offices, buildings, other structures, finishing and equipment. Maintains, constructs, and repairs a variety of structures and surfaces of brick, block, stone and other related materials. Installs or repairs electrical systems required in the construction or maintenance of buildings, quarters, offices, and shops. Performs plumbing tasks such as replacing hose bibs, valves, nipples, unions and elbows, fixtures, toilets, flush valves, faucets, and various types of pipe and copper lines. Performs electrical tasks involving making repairs that can be accomplished by removing, replacing, tightening, splicing, and insulating defective wiring and fixtures.

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT) Knowledge of Equipment, Assembly and Installation repair etc. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Use of Measuring Instruments. Ability to Interpret Specifications etc. (including blueprinting reading) Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Materials If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT factor above is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration. Education

There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.

ICTAP/CTAP Clearance (Example: Rehires): Current surplus and current or former displaced Federal individuals who have special priority selection rights under the Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) or the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP) must be well qualified for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection.
