This position is located at the Fayetteville National Cemetery in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Duties
The maintenance worker performs a variety of tasks involved in the upkeep of buildings, grounds, ponds, and related structures, fixtures, and utilities. Work assignments include the performance of visual examinations and operational tests to determine the need for, and the performance of, repair work on a level of difficulty and responsibility of trades such as: roofing, asphalt work, plumbing, painting, carpentry, and concrete work hose described in job grading standards for the kinds and levels of work shown in the following examples. The incumbent is also responsible for the repair and maintenance of the large and complex irrigation system including repairing and/or replacing irrigation lines, valves, solenoids, heads, etc., utilizing specialized tools. The maintenance worker will perform scheduled and preventative maintenance throughout the cemetery to keep grounds, utilities, and facilities in working condition. The maintenance worker also has full responsibility for maintenance and repair on a variety of automotive, engineering, and grounds equipment through the removal, replacement, adjustment or cleaning of defective parts or components. As Contracting Officer's Representative (COR), the incumbent is primarily concerned with the monitoring of quality control through inspection of work performed under contracts issued for Fayetteville National Cemetery.
Work schedule: May be required to work Monday through Friday to include occasional weekends. Due to the mission of the National Cemetery, the cemetery cannot be closed for more than 2 consecutive days at any given time. Additionally, when a Federal holiday falls on a Monday or Friday, staff may be required to work on that holiday or a Saturday. All staff is required to work Memorial Day each year. Staff will be required to work overtime, weekends and holidays when necessary to meet the needs of the cemetery. Occasionally staff may be called back to the facility to perform emergency overtime work.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 05/14/2024.
Your background must demonstrate work involved in the full range of building and maintenance trades to include carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry, pest control, asphalt repairs, etc. This includes repair and preventive maintenance of irrigation systems, maintaining and repairing buildings and physical structures, facilities, and utilities using hand and power tools.
EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Physical Requirements: The work requires moderate effort in maneuvering vehicles and hooking up equipment attachments to tractors. Frequent walking, stooping, kneeling, and pushing of wheelbarrows is also required. Requires prolonged and frequent walking, standing, bending stooping and pulling. Climbs ladders and lifts objects weighing over (50) pounds. Must have a full range of upper and lower extremities. Moderate effort required in operating vehicle and tools of the trade. Stamina, dexterity and perseverance required in all aspects of incumbent duties. Work is performed indoors and outdoors. Incumbent is subject to discomfort from working in unnatural positions for long periods in all types of weather. Must work under stress and strain, in dust, dirt, mud and water. Incumbent may be exposed to occupational injuries, such as: cuts, scrapes, dust from sawing materials, as well as other potential hazards, working with machinery, saws and electrical equipment while performing duties in this position.
Working Conditions: Work must be performed outdoors, and incumbent will be exposed to all types of weather throughout the year. Incumbent will be exposed to the sun, noise, extreme hear, and humidity, cold, snow, rain, wind, and is subject to dirt, dust, fumes (from motor and exhaust) mud, and water. Work is performed in areas where pesticides, insecticides, and fertilizers are applied. Appropriate protective equipment will be worn. The operator is exposed to injury from mishaps that may be involved in the operation of grounds maintenance equipment.
