This position is located at the Veterans Health Care System of the Ozarks, Fayetteville, AR. The incumbent performs a variety of tasks involved in the upkeep of buildings, grounds and related structures, fixtures, and utilities.
Duties
Paints and refinishes furniture, wood and metal, such as desks, cabinets, chairs, operating rooms and laundry equipment.
Constructs and repairs a wide variety of structural items such as building frames, rafters, walls, staircases, door and window frames, interior and exterior trim, miscellaneous items such as workbenches, counter tops, bookcases, etc.
Installs, modifies and repairs new and existing, utility, supply and disposal systems and equipment such as sewage, water, oil and gas distribution systems, water closets, tubs, fire sprinkler systems and showers. Installing new roofs, including metal flushing gutters and other roofing accessories, and repair or replace sheathing, boards, beams and joints.
Plans and lay out the installation and modification of various systems and equipment.
Must have basic knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic mechanisms and their principals of operation as they relate to a variety of kitchen, medical, grounds maintenance, over-the-road, materials handling, and other miscellaneous mobile equipment.
Must be able to interpret blueprints, sketches, manufacturers' specifications and technical manuals and be knowledgeable in show math, standard formulas and standard shop practices.
Must have experience to select, fit and install parts such as: pistons, valves, bearings, gears and cylinders to appropriate tolerances using manufacturers' specifications and procedures.
The incumbent will understand the provisions of the National Electrical Code and be sufficiently knowledgeable of the code to satisfactorily research special requirements or applications pertaining to low voltage systems. Electrical work may include all basic troubleshooting and repair, and project requirement identification.
Measures, cuts and constructs using standard building materials. Independentlyplans and completes projects that involve constructing, altering, repairing, and/or modifying framework, rafters, doors, finished paneling, windows, rough furniture, interior/exterior trim, staircases, trusses and beams.
Repairs plumbing systems. Installs, modifies and repairs new and existing utility, supply, and disposal systems.
Repairs equipment such as sewage, water, oil, and gas distribution systems and water closets, tubs, fire sprinkler systems, and showers.
Works from building plans, blueprints, and sketches, to plan and lay out the routing, placement, slant, slope, fall, and proper operation, of systems and equipment.
Uses tools and equipment such as plumb bobs, mercury gauges, dividers, closet augers, hydrostatic pumps, and lead pots.
Air Conditioning and Refrigeration: Maintenance Mechanic should have some experience in the installation, repair, modification and preventive maintenance of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment. This includes following local and national safety rules and guidelines, efficient use of all specialized tools in the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) trade, such as measuring equipment, hand tools, and any other specialized tools unique to the HVAC trade. Must be able to interpret blueprints, sketches, manufacturers' specifications, and technical manuals, and be knowledgeable in shop math and standard formulas.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm (subject to change based on the needs of the agency)

Physical Requirements: The incumbent works from ladders, scaffolding and hydraulic platforms. The incumbent often works in portions of the utility systems requiring attention that are cramped, dirty and hard-to reach locations. The work may involve prolonged crouching and standing and frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing and working in exhausting and uncomfortable positions. The incumbent frequently lifts or carries tools, equipment, ladders, scaffolding, parts and supplies up to 50 pounds. Occasionally, the incumbent will be required to lift and carry items over 50 pounds.
