About the Position: This position is located at Fort Meade, Maryland within the Army Health Clinic, DIR of Clinical Support, Department of Preventative Medicine, Industrial Hygiene #1.

Duties
Evaluates the adequacy of controls for health hazards in initial and final plans and specifications for facility construction alteration, and repair work.
Makes appropriate recommendations for correcting deficiencies.
Participates in surveys and environmental studies, and conducts follow-up to ensure that required abatement measures are completed.
Serves as technical expert to the installation hazard communication program when completing DOEHRS-IH Inspections, including MSDS reviews and interface with Environmental Health and Safety.
Conducts special studies or investigations related to a particular occupational medical condition related to environmental factors and stresses (i.e. physical, chemical, biological, or ergonomic).
Participates in educational programs designed to inform employees, managers, and building occupants of occupational health requirements, regulatory changes, and public health matters of concern.
Serves as liaison with OSHA industrial hygienist in resolving employee complaints and OSHA citations.

- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the
continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
- Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based
on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
- This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations
the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion
and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement: Degree: Bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science. The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
OR
Related Degree: Bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene. The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. For engineering degrees to be acceptable, the curriculum must be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum.

Certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH).In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting evaluations of work operations to assess potentially hazardous environmental conditions; perform inspections of work sites to ensure compliance with safety plans and occupational health regulations; recommend controls and corrective actions of industrial hygiene problems.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-11.Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.
