Joining the Secret Service, Office of Investigations or Office of Protective Operations will allow you to provide administrative, clerical, and office automation support using a variety of processes, methods, and techniques for protective and investigative activities. This Administrative Operations Specialistposition starts at a salary of $49,025.00 (GS-07, step 1), with potential to $91,582.00, (GS-09, step 10), depending on location.
Duties
The selectee will serve as an Administrative Operations Specialistin the Office of Investigations or Office of Protective Operations. Typical work assignments include:
Providing administrative support and implementation for financial/budget administration; training; inspections; recruitment; evidences and inventory control; record management; and human resources management.
Utilizing a variety of automated systems, applications, and software tools sufficient to effectively manage the administration and implementation of administrative functions.
Reviewing incoming communication and preparing replies to general inquires and routine actions; responding to administrative issues and inquires and resolving a variety of conflicts regarding administrative processes.
Qualifications
Applicants must demonstrate that they meet the Minimum Qualification/Specialized Experience requirements as noted below
Minimum Qualifications:
You qualify for the GS-07 level (starting salary $49,025.00) if you possess one of the following:
GS-07: Applicant must demonstrate one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) performing the following duties:
Performing basic administrative functions for an organization (this may include: filing, database entry, or drafting documents);
Gathering information or assembling data for use by senior staff in documents and reports; and
Assisting senior staff with responding to communication from internal or external stakeholders.
OR: Have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, AND meet one of the following provisions of Superior Academic Achievement:
Maintained a grade-point average of "B" (a GPA of 3.0 or higher) as recorded on your official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum;
Maintained a grade-point average "B+" (a GPA of 3.5 or higher) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum;
Rank in the upper one-third of your class in the college, university, or major subdivision;
Be a member of a national honor (other than freshman honor societies) recognized by the Association of College Honor Societies.
Please submit a college transcript(s) showing your grade point average for all four years of undergraduate study, including all transferred courses. NOTE: GPA's are to be rounded to one decimal place. For example, 2.95 will round to 3.0 and 2.94 will round to 2.9. If more than 10 percent of your undergraduate course work (credit hours) were taken on a pass/fail or similar basis, your claim must be based on class standing or membership in an honor society.
OR: Have one full year of graduate level study, in a field that provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. NOTE: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.
OR: Have a combination of some specialized experience as described above, but less than one year; and have some graduate education but less than one year of education as described above. However, you have a combination of specialized experience and graduate level education that when combined, equals at least 100% of the total requirement.
GS-9
You qualify for the GS-09 level (starting salary $59,966) if you possess one year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 level performing the following duties:
Providing administrative support to an organization (this may include: budgeting, billing, human resources, or other administrative tasks);
Utilizing computer software such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, and/or Excel to draft documents or prepare reports; and
Communicating with internal or external stakeholders on administrative concerns.
OR: Have successfully completed two (2) full year of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Master's Degree.; or successfully completed a Master's Degree.; or LL.B or J.D., if related, at an accredited college or university in a field that provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.
OR: Have less than one year of experience as described above and less than 2 years of graduate level education as described above. However, you have a combination of specialized experience and graduate level education that when combined, equals at least 100% of the total requirement. NOTE: Only graduate education in excess of one year (generally 18 semester hours) may be used in this calculation.

Time-in-Grade Requirements: Under competitive merit promotion procedures, any individual who is currently holding, or who has held within the previous 52 weeks, a General Schedule position under a non-temporary appointment in the competitive or excepted service, must meet "time-in-grade" requirements (have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade of the grade for which you are applying). Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to current employees applying for a Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. NOTE: All current or former Federal employees must provide a copy of their SF-50 (you may need to submit more than one), "Notice of Personnel Action" that indicates proof of status and time-in-grade eligibility. The SF-50 must include your position, title, series, grade, step, tenure (1 or 2), and type of service (Competitive or Excepted).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
