This position is part of the WAPA Headquarters. As a Chief of Staff, you will maintain a confidential relationship with and serve as an advisor to the Administrator; provide executive advice and assistance to other senior executive members of the WAPA management team on a variety of highly complex, technical, sensitive, multifunctional, broad, impactful matters. **This is not a remote position. The selectee will be required to be physically present at one of the duty location(s) identified.**

Duties

As a Chief of Staff, some of your duties will include: Provides program direction, planning and oversight for front-office operations and activities in support of Office of WAPA's Administrator and CEO. Serves as the supervisor for the Administrator's Administrative Officer. Plans, manages, tracks, and ensures accomplishment of high priority Administrator activities, engagements, and responses. Conceptualizes and leads the implementation of the Administrator's public engagements. Serves as a senior liaison for the SES in/for the initiation of meetings, conferences, and contacts with other agencies and Department officials. Builds and cultivates relationships with DOE officials on behalf of Administrator. Serves as the Administrator's primary liaison with DOE, other federal offices, and state governmental offices. As a Supervisor, the Chief of Staff is delegated responsibility for planning work to be accomplished by subordinates, setting and adjusting short-term priorities, and preparing schedules for completion of work. Manages contracts relating to support of special studies and projects.

Qualifications

Qualification requirements in the vacancy announcements are based on the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook, which contains federal qualification standards. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. The experience need not have been in the federal government. To qualify for the GS-15: Applicants must have one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 grade level or equivalent pay band in the Federal service. This experience includes all the following: Supporting executive-level management in the energy industry. Managing, preparing, and facilitating executive level, high-profile and short turnaround requests/documents, briefings, speeches, and meetings. Providing strategic advice, managing budget, and other administrative duties. Leading special projects and providing program support on projects, preparing reports and position papers, making recommendations on urgent and politically sensitive matters of concern to the agency. "Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The position involves only those physical demands associated with work in an office environment. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is conducted in an office environment.
