You will serve as a PUBLIC SAFETY DISPATCHER (O/A) in the Emergency Communication Center (ECC) of MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON.

Duties

You will provide emergency fire, medical, and police services to the public by answering emergency 911, calls and responding by properly categorizing the calls, determining the appropriate response, and dispatching field personnel and equipment. You will evaluate 911 calls, wireless Enhanced 911, and other emergency calls that may be received via commercial phone, emergency phone direct dial, 911 transfers from outside agencies, and/or radio. You will provide Emergency Medical Dispatching (EMD) assistance to callers with medical emergencies using the local authority's emergency medical dispatch system. You will monitor status and availability of fire, medical, and police field units to ensure an appropriate response is made. You will refer non-emergency callers to appropriate civilian and governmental agencies. You will maintain reports and retrieve needed statistical data using the local authority Fire Incident Reporting System. You will receive and dispatch appropriate public safety units to all arms, including but not limited to fire alarms, pull stations, smoke detectors, sprinklers systems, Haz-Mat alarms, hold-up alarms, intrusion alarms, and motion detectors.

  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • GS-06 Level ONLY- You must obtain and maintain a Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) Certification within one year of appointment.
  • This position requires the ability to type at least 40 words per minute. Your response to the typing skill question on the Occupational Questionnaire will be used in your qualification determination.

GS-05: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate most or all of the following: 1) Dispatch emergency vehicles AND 2) Assess incoming emergency calls to determine appropriate course of action. GS-06: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate most or all of the following: 1) Dispatch emergency vehicles including police, fire, and medical services personnel; 2) Assess incoming emergency calls to determine appropriate course of action; AND 3) Utilize emergency communication equipment. Education

In lieu of general/specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:GS-05:
  • Successfully completed four years of education above the high school level. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university; or
  • Possess a combination of specialized experience and education that equates to one year of experience. The percentage of the required education plus the percentage of the required experience must equal 100 percent.
