You will serve as a MOTOR VEHICLE DISPATCHER in the Regional Office, Soutwest Region Fleet Transportation Division of MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON.

Duties

You will receive, monitor and coordinate transportation requests for transport of personnel (TOP), transport of things (TOT), self-drive vehicles (U-Drive) and other miscellaneous transportation requirements. In scheduling transportation, you will consider priorities and efficiency when coordinating and scheduling MVOs, vehicles and other equipment. You will consolidate trips to maximize cargo/passenger space, ensuring permits are obtained when needed for overweight/oversized loads. You will provide detailed information to dispatchers and drivers to ensure compliance with federal, state and local laws. You will coordinate routine and emergency repair and roadside assistance services through SWRFT maintenance ship and/or the appropriate contracted services. You will communicate daily with operations supervisors to properly assign drivers and equipment. You will effectively deal with all trouble calls until the commitment is complete and the driver and equipment has returned safely to the motor pool. You will ensure the loading and transport of all dangerous cargo, which includes hazardous material, explosives and ammunition, is compliant with Department of the Navy regulations and all Federal, state and local laws. You will have the responsibility and authority at the job site to direct the SWRFT workforce, to stop work, and to direct corrective action on any unsafe work practices or regulation violation that is transportation related.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You may be required to life objects up to 50 pounds in weight with assistance.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Receiving, monitoring and coordinating passenger and cargo transportation movement, coordinating routine and emergency repair and roadside assistance services, and providing guidance on operating, loading and securing loads.
