Duties
GS-09 In a developmental capacity, communicates findings from document reviews, coordinates survey, performs field visits to identify health and safety hazards
GS-09 Evaluates hazards and selects appropriate controls, interviews field personnel, and effectively communicates findings and recommendations at the appropriate level.
GS-09 Assists Industrial Hygienists in assessing various work processes, evaluating exposures, developing, and advising on control measures and recommending modifications to work procedures to effectively control recognized hazards.
GS-09 Assists Industrial Hygienists, conducting procurement of sampling and safety and health equipment, acquiring laboratory services, and maintaining equipment in good working order.
GS-09 Assists Industrial Hygienists in collecting environmental and industrial hygiene data and inputting data into an approved format.
GS-09 Assists Industrial Hygienists in conducting field assessment to verify compliance with environmental safety and health standards and approved plans.
GS-10 With moderate oversight, communicates findings from document reviews, coordinates survey, performs field visits to identify health and safety hazards.

GS-11 Evaluates hazards and selects appropriate controls, interviews field personnel, and effectively communicates findings and recommendations at the appropriate level.
GS-11 With a degree of independence, assesses various work processes, evaluates exposures, develops, and advises on control measures that will effectively control recognized hazards.
GS-11 With a degree of independence, maintains supplies, conducts procurement for sampling and safety.
GS-11 With a degree of independence, collects environmental and industrial hygiene data and inputs data into an approved format.
GS-11 With a degree of independence, conducts field assessment to verify compliance with environmental
safety and health standards and approved plans.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent must have completed, or successfully complete, the OSHA-mandated 40-hour training for hazardous waste site operations and have AHERA Inspector/Management Planner certification.
- Incumbent must pass physical for performing work in level "C" personal protection and maintain active participation in the Corps of Engineers medical surveillance program as mandated by OSHA.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.

Minimum Qualifications for the GS-09 Grade Level:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes; typical of work performed at or equivalent to the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08) or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience includes (1) identifying and preventing simple environmental, safety and health hazards in the workplace; (2) collecting basic observational data and monitoring results and entering/organizing data into a database; (3) preparing hazard analysis; and (4) practical experience using existing sampling plans, methods and/or standard procedures to
conduct field sampling.
Minimum Qualifications for the GS-10 Grade Level:
One year of specialized experience or equivalent at the next lower grade GS-09 in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience includes (1) with moderate oversight, collecting, analyzing, and organizing environmental/occupational sampling or monitoring data; (2) with moderate oversight, performing site inspections and quality assurance visits for compliance with plans and specifications on field activities such as environmental sampling, building construction, hazardous material remediation, renovation,
and/or demolition activities; (3) assisting a senior level staff with conducting complex surveys and preparing reports, and (4) assisting a senior level staff in preparing cost estimates and small scale procurements of sampling supplies and services.
Minimum Qualifications for the GS-11 Grade Level:
One year of specialized experience or equivalent at the next lower grade GS-10 in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience includes (1) with a degree of independence, performing environmental/occupational sampling and monitoring activities and associated data organization, analysis and reporting; (2) with a degree of independence performing site inspections and quality assurance visits for compliance with plans and specifications on field activities such as environmental sampling, building construction, hazardous material remediation, renovation, and/or demolition activities; (3) with a degree of independence, preparing/reviewing elements of safety and health plans, standard operating procedures, sampling plans and reports; and (4) practical experience preparing sampling cost estimates and coordinating/conducting the procurements of sampling supplies and services.
