About the Position: Serves as a Health Technician (Optometry) in the Dunham United States Army Health Clinic (DUSAHC) to over 10,000 eligible beneficiaries.

Duties
Assist in the preliminary examination of patients prior to their evaluation by the Optometrist.
Measure visual acuity, neutralizing spectacle and/or contact lenses, measuring color vision, stereovision, autorefraction, auto-keratometry, and intraocular pressure determinations via non-contact and contact tonometry.
Instill dilation drops as directed by provider.
Assist patients in their selection of spectacle frames and ordering spectacles through the Spectacle Request and Transmission System (SRTS).
Register patients for clinic visits; receives/greets incoming patients; answers the telephone and refers calls as necessary.
Ensure clinic exam/screening rooms are stocked with adequate supplies.
Photograph structures with a funduscopic or biomicroscopic devices as appropriate.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 1 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
- This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- A Childcare Background Check (CNACI) is required. This position has a specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require contact with children.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes preliminary examination of patients prior to evaluation by the optometrist; assisting the optometrist in performing specialized procedures such as Visual Field Tests, Tonometry, and vision screenings; assisting patients in frame selection, spectacle ordering, and adjustment; and inserting contact lens while providing removal and care training with patients. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06)
