About the Position: This position is located at Tripler Army Medical Center, Honolulu, Hawaii. Advance in hire "may" be offered, based on a determination if in the best interest of the Government.

Duties

Serve as a food service worker performing a variety of non-supervisory duties, where the primary duty is in food service, food preparation and cleaning. Clean manual and electrical utensils. Make a variety of beverages, fruit and vegetable salads. Deliver food carts to the hospital wards for patients. Clean and set up dining facility.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position may require to work overtime, holidays, weekends, evenings and on-call.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". Incumbent will be required to insure continuity of Tripler Army Medical Center’s operations during ALL hazards emergency situations.
  • In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position works on an alternate work schedule. The incumbent will be assigned to rotating shifts between 0530-1400 and 1100-1930 hours, seven days a week, to include evenings, holidays, weekends, and early and late shifts.
  • This position may require overtime work.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Food Service Worker ~ without more than normal supervision. I have demonstrated the ability to be a reliable and dependable worker. I have received no seriously derogatory reports on my work performance or conduct as it relates to tardiness, attendance, self-motivation, completion of assignments on time. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Frequently lifts or moves objects weighing up to 50 pounds, e.g., lifting individual dishes or trays in serving or cleaning tables; lifting trays or clean dishes. Lifts filled milk containers weighing up to 55 pounds to heights of three (3) feet. Is constantly standing and walking. Working Conditions: The work is performed in kitchen and dining areas. Steam and heat from cooking and dishwashing equipment often cause uncomfortably high temperatures and humidity. The work area is well lighted, but usually noisy from food service activities and there is a danger of slipping on floors where food or beverages have been dropped. Food service workers are regularly exposed to hot liquids, sharp cutting blades, hot working surfaces, and extreme temperature changes when entering walk-in refrigerators or freezing units. Subject to prolonged periods of standing. Must abide by personal hygiene standards and safe work procedures such as wearing a hairnet or hat and a clean uniform daily.
