About the Position: This position is located at Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC), Fort Sam Houston, Texas.
Duties
Operate vehicles on and off post. Vehicles include 44 passenger buses, 15 passenger vans, 4 ton pick-up trucks, cars, stake and platform trucks, and special purpose vehicles such as parking lot shuttles.
Follow oral and written instructions to complete specific trip assignments and predetermined routes on regularly established schedules.
Safely maneuver the vehicle in and out of constricted areas including narrow city streets on and near the post and congested hospital and clinic parking lots.
Assist in loading and unloading trucks using proper procedures for loading, protection of materials and safety required by the type and quantity of items being transported.
Correct route issues by using alternate routes in instances of road construction, severe weather, heavy traffic congestion.
Perform operator maintenance and complete vehicle operation records and logs.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
- A pre-placement medical examination is required.
- Moderate to heavy lifting up to 45 pounds is required.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- Position requires a state issued commercial driver's license with "P"-Passenger endorsements.
- This position may include shift work (evenings, weekends, holidays).
- This position may require the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.
- This position may require the incumbent to work weekends and/or holidays.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Motor Vehicle Operator without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform common operation of passenger buses or passenger ambulance buses equipped with air brakes. Drive on the basis of specific trip assignments or regularly established routes over public roads at highway speeds under all traffic conditions. Perform operator maintenance on all vehicles operated. Work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort: Physical effort is needed to maneuver the long and heavy vehicles, especially when backing vehicles. May be required to assist passengers into and out of the vehicle, which involves physical exertion and frequent stooping and bending. Physical effort is required in reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls.
Working Conditions: The employee operates buses, vans and trucks on and off post over standard designated routes to shuttle medical students, ambulatory patients and staff. The employee operates vehicles in all types of traffic and weather on public roads and is exposed to the danger of serious accidents. Off post driving is accomplished in heavy traffic and at highway speeds over metropolitan expressways and interstate highway systems. Vehicles are operated in all kinds of weather conditions.
