About the Position: This position is located at Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, Texas.
Duties
Drive 44 passenger buses to transport passengers to and from assigned locations.
Perform operator maintenance by monitoring fluid levels, replacing air filters and interior lights, and checking tire pressure and hose connections.
Follow oral and written instructions to complete work assignments.
Assist in setting up for special events by picking up and delivering a variety of items to destination.
Load cargo properly onto the vehicle by using appropriate tie-downs such as chains, binders, or straps.
Follow protocols by observing established time schedules, prescribed routes, and established speed limits.
Correct route issues by using alternate routes in instances of road construction, severe weather, heavy traffic congestion.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
- A pre-placement medical examination is required.
- Moderate to heavy lifting up to 45 pounds is required.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- Must possess and maintain a valid stateside driver's license.
- This position may require the incumbent to work weekends and/or holidays.
- This position requires a state issued commercial driver's license with "P"-Passenger endorsements, IAW PL 99-570 within the first year of employment.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Motor Vehicle Operator without more than normal supervision. The ability to perform common operation of one or more types of gasoline, diesel or electric powered wheeled vehicles with gross vehicle weight of more than 26,000 and up to 32,000 pounds. Operate a service truck/utility vehicle. Work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort: Physical effort is needed to maneuver the vehicles, especially when backing or turning. May be required to assist passengers into and out of the vehicle, which involves physical exertion and frequent stooping and bending. Physical effort is required in reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls. The driver exerts moderate physical effort in maneuvering buses in difficult situations. Occasional assistance to passengers in boarding or leaving the bus is required. Minor maintenance on vehicles and loading or unloading supplies and equipment require moderate physical effort. The physical effort of this position is meets the WG-07 level.
Working Conditions: The employee operates buses, vans and trucks on and off post over standard designated routes to shuttle medical students, ambulatory patients and staff, and soldiers to field exercises. The employee operates vehicles in all types of traffic and weather on public roads and is exposed to the danger of serious accidents. Off post driving is accomplished in heavy traffic and at highway speeds over metropolitan expressways and interstate highway systems. Vehicles are operated in all kinds of weather conditions. These conditions meet the conditions of work at the WG-07 level.
