Duties
As a Health Technician (Call Center), your typical work assignments may include:
Receiving patient calls for room service; processing, communicating, and coordinating meal requests in a fast paced environment.
Notifying patient care staff to alter diet orders as required.
Ensuring meal orders for patients are entered efficiently and accurately using a computerized or manual system.
Verifying requested items are in compliance with the diet orders and instructions in patients' file.
Evaluating all menu choices for diet orders, allergy compliance, and nutritional limits, and ensuring patients are receiving a balanced meal plan.
Contacting medical staff such as nurses and dieticians to inform them of any changes and clarifications concerning patient meal requests.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship requirement or proof of being a U.S. National must be met by closing date.
- Employment is subject to the successful completion of a background investigation, verification of qualifications, completion of onboarding forms, submission of required documents, and any other job-related requirement before or after appointment.

- Males born after December 31, 1959 must be registered with the Selective Service.
- If selected, you must pass a pre-employment medical examination, provide evidence of immunization, and be free from communicable diseases.
- You must be able to lift and move items weighing approx. 35 lbs, in addition to kneeling and stooping.
- This position requires weekend hours, regular or rotational shifts, and Holidays.
- This is a Bargaining Unit position.
- Occasional risks include exposure to contagious diseases, slippery floors, and irritant chemicals. The incumbent may have to use protective clothing such as masks and gowns when entering patient rooms.
- This position has on-call or call-back requirements.
- This is a part-time position ( 16 hours per week)
Qualifications
You qualify at the GS-05 level, if you meet one of the following qualification requirements:
A. Completion of a 4 year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major study or at least 24 semester hours that are directly related to the work of the position (i.e. food, nutrition, or dietetics)
OR
B. You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: reviewing and verifying diet orders; communicating with patients and patient care staff regarding diet restrictions and nutrient goals; and using computerized systems to enter patient and nutrient related information.
OR
C. A combination of post high school education and specialized experience that meets the qualification requirements for this position.
