This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), United States Coast Guard (USCG), Deputy Commandant for Operations (DCO), Assistant Commandant for Response Policy, Director of Law Enforcement, Maritime Security & Defense Operations Policy, Office of Counterterrorism and Defense Operations, Support and Security Division (CG-ODO-3) located in Washington, DC.

Duties

As a Supervisory Senior Program Advisor, you will serve as a senior advisor on a variety of issues, operations and activities within the Coast Guard’s (CG) Policy Response Directorate, Office of Counterterrorism and Defense Operations Policy (CG-ODO). You will also serve as the senior technical expert on the CG’s Defense Readiness statutory mission and Counterterrorism (CT) activities, and, expert advisor and consultant, responsible for representing the government at various national levels on significant issues related to counterterrorism and defense readiness.

  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • The position requires a valid state driver's license.
  • This position requires a Top Secret/SCI clearance.
  • A final offer of employment is contingent upon a negative drug test result.
  • May be required to serve a one-year supervisory probationary period.

Qualifications

Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. GS-15 - You qualify if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal, State, or Local government or equivalent public or private sector experience. Your resume must demonstrate that you meet ALL the specialized experience below: Advising senior leadership on counterterrorism and defense readiness; AND Providing leadership to others such as workgroups, teams or special projects; AND Participating in contingency planning, Global Force Management, and strategic operational planning; AND Developing and applying defense policies, counterterrorism, and joint forces policies. NOTE: Education cannot be substituted for experience at this grade level. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.  If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
