Duties

As a Supervisory Health Scientist you will: Serve as Chief of the Response Analytics, Decision Support, and Surveillance Branch (RADSS). Direct and manage the operations of the Branch with primary responsibility for providing leadership and guidance to Branch staff. Lead branch staff in providing Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) (and partners, as appropriate) reliable, comprehensive, and high-quality information (e.g., event-based surveillance) on national and international disease outbreaks and other health threats as they emerge and evolve. Develop and maintain relationships among a variety of national and international public health, medical, and environmental organizations, other government agencies, academic institutions, and state and local health departments. Perform the full range of supervisory duties and responsibilities for a staff composed of CDC employees.

Qualifications

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Minimum Qualifications: To qualify at the GS-15 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-14 grade level, which must include the following experience: planning, directing, evaluating, and coordinating the activities of the Branch and providing expert advice and guidance to both Division and Office Directors. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Copy of your transcripts or equivalent documentation is required for positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying based on education or a combination of education and experience. An official transcript will be required if you are selected.

College or university degree generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. For a list of schools which meet these criteria, please refer to Department of Education Accreditation page.

You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
