You will serve as an ADMINISTRATIVE/TECHNICAL SPECIALIST in the INFRASTRUCTURE DIVISION, CORPORATE OPERATIONS DEPARTMENT of NAVUNSEAWARCENDIV NEWPORT RI.

Duties

You will assist in the management of the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division, Newport Safety programs. You will serve as a lead Safety Inspector who conducts site visits of all work areas at the Newport site and detachments. You will identify unsafe, conditions, machine guarding, electrical, exposure to hazardous materials, ergonomic risks, unsafe operations, fall hazards, infrastructure issues, fire safety issues and protective equipment usage. You will interpret various regulations in order to provide written reports to applicable departments, ensuring interim controls are in place until corrected. You will be responsible for the Traffic Safety Program and participates on the traffic council. You will investigate accidents, provides findings in written reports to Division Newport leadership and the Navy Safety Center to include lessons learned and mitigations to prevent similar accidents from occurring. You will provide information on mishaps to external regulatory agencies such as OSHA as required. You will review hazardous Standard Operating Procedures to ensure compliance and that hazardous operations are mitigated to eliminate or reduce the hazards.

• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
• You may be required to lift moderately heavy items (15-44 pounds).

Qualifications

For the NT-04 pay band: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the NT-03 (GS-09/10 equivalent) pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: interpreting and applying occupational safety and health principles, practices, procedures, and standards to investigate accidents and mishaps, identify hazards, and develop reports to prevent further incidents or mishaps for an organization. For the NT-03 pay band: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the NT-02 (GS-05 through GS-08 equivalent) pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: interpreting and applying occupational safety and health principles, practices, procedures, and standards to review accidents or mishaps and identify hazards for an organization. For the NT-04 Pay Band:

• A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. OR
• Three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. OR

OR
• Two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene) or a degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study form among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.
