The following are the duties of this position at the full working level.
Identifies potential and actual problems and probable causes. Researches a variety of issues, gathers pertinent statistics or information, reports findings to higher level employee, and may recommend corrective action for aspects of a program or function.
Monitors, reviews, and evaluates operations and interrelationships with other functions regarding workflow, work redundancy, or systemic problems and report findings to higher level employee(s).
Verifies completeness and accuracy of controls to ensure compliance with established procedures and formats.
This position has career progression. If you are selected at a grade level lower than the full working level, you may be non-competitively promoted as your career progresses. For example, you may be hired as a GS-05, but if the position has career progression to GS-11, then you may move from a GS-05 to a GS-11 in as little as three years.
Qualifications
Federal experience is not required. The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or Volunteer Service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-timework is considered on a prorated basis. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To qualify for this position, you must meet the qualification requirements outlined below:
GENERAL EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE FOR GS-04: You must have one (1) year or twelve (12 months) of general experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS -03) in the Federal government. General experience - Progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular competencies needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. This may be paid or non-paid experience.
OR You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: Two (2) years of education above the high school level (education may have been obtained in an accredited junior college, college, university, business, secretarial or technical school.
OR You may qualify with an equivalent amount of combined education and experience.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION FOR GS-05: You must have one year (12 months) of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-04) in the Federal government. Specialized experience is experience that is related to the work of this position and has provided you with the competencies required for successful job performance. Examples of qualifying experience include experience gathering and compiling available data and information for aspects of a program and reports findings to a higher level employee; monitoring and reviewing established administrative procedures and program operations and assisting in the preparation of memoranda, reports and charts; using word processing, spreadsheet and database software to prepare documents and to enter, revise, manipulate, sort, calculate, store and retrieve data.
OR You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: a bachelor's degree or four (4) years of education above high school in any field of study from an accredited college or university.
OR You may qualify with an equivalent amount of combined education and experience.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-06: You must have one year (12 months) of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-05) in the Federal government. Specialized experience is experience that is directly related to the work of this position and has provided you with the competencies required for successful job performance. Examples of qualifying experience include experience gathering and compiling available data and information for aspects of a program and reporting findings to higher level employees; monitoring and reviewing established operations and interrelationships with other functions regarding workflow, work redundancy, or systemic problems; verifying completeness and accuracy of controls to ensure compliance with established procedures; and using word processing, spreadsheet and database software to prepare documents and to enter, revise, manipulate, sort, calculate, store, and retrieve data.
Candidates must meet the typing proficiency and office automation skills, as well as the experience and/or education required for this position.
Applicants must be a qualified typist with a minimum typing speed of 40 words per minute (based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors). Applicants may meet these requirements by passing the appropriate performance test, presenting a certificate of proficiency from a school or other organization authorized to issue such certificates by the Office of Personnel Management local office, or by self-certifying their proficiency. Performance test results and certificates of proficiency are acceptable for three years. We may verify proficiency skills of self-certified applicants by administering the appropriate performance test.
