The Supply Technician is responsible for providing wards, clinics, operating rooms, secondary storage locations, and other hospital facilities with supplies and material including, but not limited to, sterile and non-sterile medical supplies, instrument sets and equipment. This position is located at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System under the Prosthetics and Sensory Aids Service Line.

Duties

Duties include, but may not be limited to the following: Provide wards, clinics, service lines and other hospital facilities with non-expandable equipment and material. Distribute items according to established or ad hoc requirements in computerized inventory management system. Receives and catalogs incoming durable medical equipment in the electronic health record. Prepares, packages, and ships equipment orders requested by health care providers that are intended for outpatient care. Inform of new or changed equipment items through periodic inventory and discussion with departmental staff and clinical personnel. Provides information to customers or external stakeholders regarding medical supplies. Work with customers to resolve equipment management issues including receiving requests, clarifying user requirements, explaining delays, expediting deliveries and resolving problems. Escalate complex or unresolvable issues to the supervisor or more senior staff. Utilize computerized systems including bar-coding and automated inventory systems for the delivery and inventory control of equipment. Utilize an automated inventory system to monitor issues and receipts in support of lifecycle management processes. Utilizes an automated inventory system to monitor issues and receipts in support of stock replenishment processes. Ensure data accuracy in the automated system of record. Deliver equipment and materials timely, in an accurate manner and ensure equipment is delivered in an operational condition. Ensure non-expandable equipment is appropriately monitored and controlled. Identify gaps and/or discrepancies and provide information on new or changed items and equipment. Perform research of old manufacturers code and part numbers, covering requisitioned material in support of jobs which have not occurred. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 05/02/2024. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-05 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-04. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience for the GS-05: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: providing supplies and material to clinical and/or administrative areas of a facility; scanning, bar-coding, receiving, storing and distributing supplies, instruments and other material; pulling stock, replenishing stock and maintaining records on stock levels; monitoring expiration dates; cleaning assigned areas in accordance with regulations and policy; utilizing an automated system to maintain inventory; and answers customer questions regarding supplies and materials. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed 4 years above high school in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education was obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or university. Transcripts must be submitted at the time of application. OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education. For the GS-05, only education in excess of 60 semester hours (2 years) is creditable. NOTE: If using education combined with specialized experience to qualify, a copy of your transcript is required. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Attention to DetailCommunicationsTechnical CompetenceTechnology Application Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work requires standing and walking during the entire workday, and frequent reaching, bending, and lifting of supply packages (occasionally weighing as much as 50 pounds). With proper assistance, moves heavier items weighing over 40 pounds. This level of physical demands occurs, for example, when employees are regularly assigned to activities such as tracing misplaced items or conducting physical inventories in warehouses, and other storage areas, or when they are regularly involved in stocking and retrieving items from shelves and cabinets.
