You will serve as a PRODUCTION MACHINERY MECHANIC in the PIPE SHOP, PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will diagnose and determine corrective procedures in the maintenance, repair, overhaul, and reconditioning of all production shop machines. You will direct work of assisting trades persons. You will troubleshoot problems by systematic step-by-step checks and correct problems when located. You will use various hand and power tools and precision measuring instruments such has height gauges, depth gauges, calipers, verniers, micrometers of various types. You will ensure pumps used in nuclear work are repaired and maintained to a Grade A cleanliness standard.

• Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
• This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
