You will serve as a Production Machinery Mechanic Helper in the Production Resources Department, Pipe Shop Subdivision of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will assist machinist in assembly, set up and leveling of new machinery.
You will assist machinist in disassembly of machinery being repaired, clean parts and operate a high-lift truck to raise work platforms.
You will assist machinist in lifting, positioning, aligning and clamping heavy or awkward parts for machining operations.
You will assist machinist in periodic checks of scales in the Shipyard by placing known weights on them to check for deviations.
You will assist journeyman on any job of a heavy nature or where the job is too large or complicated for one man to handle or when the journeyman is on temporary light or limited duty.
You will independently perform jobs of varying complexity to enable supervisor to gauge potential for promotion.
Requirements

- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision performing duties such as:
Assisting journeymen to read and interpret instruction books, process instructions, design memorandums and nuclear power engineering documents;
Assisting mechanics working from blueprints, drawings, charts and tables with problems of arithmetic and shop mathematics;
Assisting journeyman mechanic to determine procedures and sequence of work;
Assisting with dismantling large and delicate machinery to prevent loss or damage to machines or injury to persons;
Keeping journeyman supplied with tools and work materials.
