This position is located in Refugee, Asylum and International Operations, Asylum Division, Chicago Asylum Office. As a Lead Legal Administrative Specialist, you will provide administrative oversight to a team of subordinates and serve as senior analyst to the supervisor on mission and/or administrative programs requiring application of a wide range of analytical methods and evaluative techniques..

Duties

Communicate the organization's strategic plan, mission, values and vision to the team. Ensure compliance with background check protocols ,file review and queries, face to face interviews, Notice to Appear (NTA’s), Asylum Prescreening (APSO) services. Assist with case inquiries and delivery of decisions for adjudicated cases, motions to reopen/reconsider, administrative closures and withdrawals, and providing information to appropriate Asylum Divisions, ICE, EOIR, CBP and the public. Train the team in the selection and application of appropriate problem solving methods and techniques, and provide advice on work methods, practices and procedures. Serve as coach, facilitator and/or negotiator in coordinating team initiatives and in consensus building activities among team members. Develops briefings, presentations, reports and other communications for management. Provide administration oversight to a team of subordinates. Lead subordinate team in identifying, distributing and balancing workload and tasks among employees.

Qualifications

The qualifications for this position must be met by 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on 05/03/2024. Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the lower grade or equivalent grade band in the Federal service. The Time-in-Grade requirement must be met by 11:59 PM (Eastern Time) on 05/03/2024. GS-11: You qualify at the GS-11 level if you possess one (1) year of specialized experience, which is equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the federal government, that equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. You must have experience performing the following duties: Training individuals in the selection and application of problem solving methods and techniques; Overseeing case protocols, file reviews, and inquiries; Developing and maintaining data queries, presentations, and reports for programs based on examination of records and databases to report to internal or external stakeholders (i.e. Asylum, ICE, EOIR, CBP, and the Public); and Recommending improvements or solutions to problems and determining appropriate actions and deadlines. OR You may substitute successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or at least three (3) full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related, for experience at the GS-11 grade level. Such education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position.
