Duties

As a Health Communications Specialist (Understudy) you will: Lead the development, implementation, and management, and evaluation of major national or international communication and marketing programs, projects, and strategies for the lay and professional audiences, including innovative demonstration projects. Provide consultation, technical assistance, and training on translation and dissemination to internal and external groups (e.g., news media, CDC staff and local, state, and international partners) to facilitate national or international efforts. Prepare message materials for campaign or program work for diverse audiences including professional audiences and the news media and presenting health communication briefings or presentations to various groups to include federal, state and local constituents. Manage and integrate multiple communication channels (including partners and the media); and overseeing development, coordination, and maintenance of partnerships. Guide internal and external audiences (e.g., CDC staff, state partners, international partners) in media planning of health communication and marketing programs, campaigns, and activities. Promote, guide, conduct, and support audience research and evaluation of communication and marketing programs, including formative, process, and outcome evaluation and qualitative and quantitative methods.

Qualifications

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Minimum Qualifications: To qualify at the GS-14 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level, which must include the following experience: leading the planning, implementation, management, or evaluation of news media strategies to advance public health issues and experience in preparing messages for diverse audiences including the news media. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Copy of your transcripts or equivalent documentation is required for positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying based on education or a combination of education and experience. An official transcript will be required if you are selected.

College or university degree generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. For a list of schools which meet these criteria, please refer to Department of Education Accreditation page.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
