About the Position: This position is located in Fort Knox, Kentucky-Facilities Division Operations.

Duties

Use hand or power tools to perform minor maintenance and repairs. Perform operational checks on maintenance equipment. Perform maintenance work involving trades, such as roofing, asphalt work, plumbing, painting, carpentry, and cement work. Performs routine maintenance, overhaul, and repair of standard types of mechanical locking devices such as mortise, rim, key-in-the-knob, deadbolt, office equipment, padlocks, and emergency exit locks. Perform operational tests to determine need for repair of building structures, fixtures, and utilities. Use precision measuring instruments and electrical testing devices to perform routine maintenance tasks. Prepare materials according to direction. Review blueprints, repair manuals, and/or parts catalogs to perform maintenance tasks.

Requirements

  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Requirement.
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Direct deposit of pay is required.
  • One year trial or probationary period may be required.
  • Appointment subject to a suitability/fitness determination, as determined by a background investigation.
  • This position requires a Tier 1 (T1) investigation with Childcare Checks since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: U.S. Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Worker without more than normal supervision. To meet the screen out element, applicants should document experience or show the ability to do the following: examining maintenance needs; servicing industrial and/or commercial equipment; and performing repair work on buildings - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal SupervisionAbility to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading)Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentKnowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.Knowledge of MaterialsTechnical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)Use of Measuring Instruments Physical Effort: The incumbent is required to stand, stoop, kneel, climb, and occasionally work in uncomfortable positions for short periods of time. Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up material that weighs 15 pounds and occasionally handles materials and equipment that weighs 40 pounds and over. Working Conditions: Work assignments are conducted both inside and outside and the employee is subject to cuts and bruises and occasional falls. Unpleasant odors maybe encountered from various working environment. The employee is required to wear appropriate safety clothing.
