About the Position: Serves as a Lead Human Resources Assistant (Military/Office Automation) in the Atlanta, GA Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS). This position is located in the major metropolitan city of Atlanta, with easy access to major interstate highways and business setting. Atlanta has year-round temperatures ranging from 35 to 90 degree Fahrenheit. Salary shown in this announcement includes locality pay or Local Market Supplement.
Duties
Responsible for greeting and accounting for visitors/applicants in and out of the MEPS station.
Screen applicants' records to ascertain that all necessary documents are present according to the requirements of each military service.
Ensure timely release of and accounts for processing records to the medical section, services and external agencies for review.
Administer pre-oath briefing's and brief applicants on MEPS procedures.
Conduct on-the-job training of new employees in accordance with established procedures and practices.
Provide technical guidance, information and expertise on standardized procedures, policies and directives with 95% accuracy.
Ensures the proper maintenance of automated equipment. Inform employees of available services and activities.
Provide input supervisor on performance, progress, and training needs of employees, and on disciplinary problems.
Prepare reports and maintain records of work accomplishments and administrative information.
Coordinate the preparation, presentation and communication of work efforts to the supervisor.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
- This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
- This position requires frequent local travel and occasional Temporary Duty (TDY) up to 10% of the time.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: Experience in Human Resources personnel operations including experience in making person-to-person contacts to explain regulatory, procedural, and policy requirements. Experience processing transactions of an unusually complicated nature; providing counseling and assistance to personnel; and prepare reports using data from various sources. Distribute and balance the workload among employees. Use common computer software designed for word processing.

Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university field(s) of study.

Combination of Education and Experience: Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.
