About the Position: Serves as a Personnel Security Specialist. This position will be impacted by a Reduction In Force (RIF) within the next 3-5 years(subject to change), due to closure of the organization. Impacted employees will be assessed for all eligible RIF benefits should that occur.

Duties

Provide technical and administrative guidance to personnel on personnel security issues, such as adjudication, suitability determinations. Apply personnel security principles and methods to process i.e. Initial investigations, clearances, periodic re-investigations. Evaluate protection systems and devices to insure protection of sensitive information, equipment and other material against sabotage, destruction loss, theft, misuse, or subject to terrorist, malicious mischief, or other acts of willful interference. Prepare correspondence to leadership involving denied and revoked clearances or public trust determinations. Analyze and report on clearance and appeals findings to senior officials, to include prepare appropriate notifications.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Obtain and maintain a Top Secret Security Clearance.
  • Business travel (TDY) up to 5%.
  • Position is subject to drug testing prior to placement into the position and subject to random drug testing thereafter.
  • This position has been identified for the Security Professional Education Development (SPeD) Certification Program. This is the Department of Defense (DoD) Security Certification Program directed by DoD Instruction 3305.13.
  • It is approved by the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Manpower and Reserve Affairs for use in the Army via the following memorandum:

  • This position requires the incumbent obtain the following core SPeD Certification: Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC) within their first two years of employment.

OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. [remove LL.M., if unrelated] in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Security Administration. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-9).
