This position is located in the Health Resources and Services Administration, Health Systems Bureau, Division of Transplantation, Blood Stem Cell Transplantation Branch. Duties

Nurse Consultants are a mission critical occupation for HRSA. These positions are critical in supporting Health Resources and Services Administration's nursing care and treatment for outpatient, specialty clinics, urgent care and/or emergency patients. As a Supervisory Nurse Consultant, you will serve as the as the Branch Chief, supporting the Division of Transplantation Director (DoT) and Deputy Director. In this role you will focus on the development and implementation of a strategic plan to assure achievement of the Division's goals and objectives, to support effective oversight of blood stem cell donation and transplantation systems, along with oversight of the national cord blood inventory. Your major duties and responsibilities include: Directing a staff of technical professionals and personnel engaged in supporting multiple contracts to support national programs for blood stem cell transplantation, with the overall objective of expanding access to and increasing the number of life-saving bone marrow and umbilical cord blood transplants performed across the Nation. Providing guidance to the DoT Director and Deputy Director on trends in blood stem cell donation and transplantation. Analyzing and evaluating on a quantitative and/or qualitative basis, the effectiveness of DoT's blood stem cell transplantation programs or operations in meeting established goals and objectives. Collaborating with HRSA and Bureau staff in using transplantation research, information, and data to make informed decisions and improve the effectiveness and efficiency of blood stem cell transplantation programs. Providing administrative and technical supervision necessary for accomplishing the work of the Branch. Requirements

  • U. S. Citizenship is required.
  • Males ages 18 through 25 must be registered with the Selective Service.
  • PHS Commissioned Corps applicants must submit current personnel order.

  • Must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination - must submit documentation.
  • Must possess a Current, Active, Full, and Unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse - must submit documentation.
  • One year supervisory probationary period may be required.
  • Employment is subject to the successful completion of the pre-appointment process (i.e., background investigation, verification of qualifications and job requirements, completion of onboarding forms, submission of required documents, etc.)

Education: A graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. MINIMUM QUALIFYING SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, an applicant's one full year of specialized experience must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for successful job performance. Examples of minimum qualifying specialized experience equal to the GS-13 level in the federal service include performing the following types of tasks on a regular and recurring basis: Utilizing nursing and clinical judgment to research and provide recommendations on improving the effectiveness and efficiency of transplantation programs such as blood stem cell products, bone marrow, and/or solid organs. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; community; student; social). If such experience is on a part-time basis, you must provide the average number of hours worked per week as well as the beginning and ending dates of the experience so it can be fully credited.
