About the Position: The U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY is an academic institution located in the Hudson River Valley, 50 miles from New York City. The historic site is the oldest continuously occupied military post in America.
Duties
Serves as working leader of employees in accomplishing custodial service tasks.
Works under the supervision of a Custodial Services Supervisor who issues instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines, and relies on the incumbent to assure that work assignments are carried out by other members of the group.
Advises other employees to follow supervisors' instructions and to meet deadlines.
As Lead assigns tasks to be performed by individual members of the group.
Performs the full range of custodial duties.
Operates a motor vehicle to transport employees, equipment and supplies to and from work site.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Required to wear safety and/or use protective equipment.
- Incumbent must report for and/or remain on duty during inclement weather.
- Must submit to a drug test prior to appointment and random drug testing while occupying this position.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Custodial Services Leader (MVO) without more than normal supervision. to include performing grounds maintenance, snow and/or leaf removal, trash collection, policing grounds, washing, cleaning and/or similar tasks. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort: Uses moderately heavy physical effort in moving and arranging classroom furniture, working from ladders, and using power equipment. Employee occasionally moves objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
Working Conditions: Works indoors most of the time, and outdoors occasionally. Exposed to conditions inherent cleaning tasks described such as chapped hands or other irritation from working with strong cleaning agents. Care must be taken to avoid serious injury when working on ladders and scaffolds and when using heavy powered equipment. Must use required safety gear and equipment.
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
