You will serve as a SUPERVISORY GENERAL ENGINEER in the TECHNICAL DIVISION (SP20), CHIEF ENGINEER BRANCH (SP201) of STRATEGIC SYSTEMS PROGRAMS.

Duties

You will be responsible for coordination and integration of multiple independent SWS design activities to ensure alignment of multiple SWS projects and alterations into a seamless weapon system program. You will define program assumptions, monitor design efforts, and implement options to allow the independent projects and alterations to be implemented in a sequence. You will implement in a sequence that maintains the ability to operate and maintain continuous availability of the SWS to meet mission. You will be responsible for developing program level technical documentation, including ITRAs and CARDs, for sub-programs and projects required to meet DOD 5000 requirements. You will be responsible for review and evaluation of sub-program and project level schedules for alignment with SWS system level milestones and evaluating their alignment with each other. You will set the overall direction of the unit's effort, a responsibility executed collaboratively across multiple project teams and the section head whom the unit head reports to, including short and long term priorities for subordinates. You will schedule for completion of work efforts, subject to higher level requirements, requests, and direction, and with selective consideration of the difficulty of the assignment in contrast to the capabilities of subordinates. You will lead and manage a diverse team of federal civilians, military, industry/contractors, government laboratories and interagency personnel to achieve programmatic and technical objectives. You will have experience with nuclear weapons program management, including policies and procedures for joint DoD/DOE nuclear weapons design, development, production, deployment, sustainment, and refurbishments.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position is covered under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA). Certification in the Acquisition Functional Area and category assigned to the position is required within established category timeframes.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to complete ethics orientation within three months of appointment and submit a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450, within 30 days of appointment.

Qualifications

In addition to the basic education requirement, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level or NH-3 pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: professional experience in an engineering discipline directing and analyzing the integration of multiple projects; evaluating budgets, technical proficiency, and overall impact of project implementation. Education

Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:

Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above). The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of an engineering program as described in paragraph A (above)

OR

Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
