You will serve as a SOCIAL SCIENCE ANALYST in the Navy Drug and Alcohol Counselor School (NDACS), Navy Medicine Operational Training Center Detachment, Surface Warfare Medical Institute of NAVMEDOPTRNCMD DET SWMI.
Term appointments may be extended up to 8 years at the discretion of management and in accordance with applicable regulations. Additionally, you may be noncompetitively converted to a permanent career-conditional or career appointment under specific conditions.
Duties
You will provide training and supervision to students in the Navy Drug and Alcohol Counselor School and assists in the development , evaluation, evaluation, and revision of the NDACS curriculum.
You will function as a member of an instruction team providing didactic and experimental instruction in the training of substance abuse/dependency counseling interns.
You will provide direct supervision and assessment of students during training procedures, counseling techniques, role playing exercises, group facilitation, and video feedback presentations.
You will provide supervision to students in both outpatient and inpatient practicum settings.
You will prepare and present substance abuse education and/or awareness training sessions within local military and civilian communities.
You will provide assistance in the design implementation and coordination of practicum training w/other chemical dependency counseling specialists.

- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
- This is a DON Drug Testing Designated Position (TDP) due to provision of alcohol and drug counseling and drug abuse counseling and IAW DON Drug Free Workplace designation.
- A favorable ANACI (Access National Agency check w/Inquiries) background investigation is required for a non-critical sensitive position requiring access to network systems.
- Must posses a state level Addiction Counselor Credential (ADCII)
Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of SPECIALIZED experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector:
Providing direct supervision and assessment of students during training procedures, counseling techniques, role playing exercises, group facilitation, and video feedback presentations;
Evaluating students in case management, formulation of individualized treatment plans, screening assessments, intakes assessments, selecting appropriates therapeutic methodology to facilitate change in maladaptive and dysfunctional behavior and preparing case presentations for purposes of clinical supervision;
Conducting student supervision group providing guidance in application of counseling skills and demonstration of counseling characteristics, (evaluating and providing specific feedback to student regarding progress; developing remediation plans to assist students w/identified problem areas; correct homework assignments and provide feedback to students in graded work; prepare weekly progress assessments; and initiate disenrollment process as necessary);
Utilizing the Twelve Step recovery programs (e.g., Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous) and other recovery/support groups;
Training, teaching, counseling in a clinical therapeutic environment specializing in prevention of substance abuse or treatment of substance abusers.

Basic Requirements
Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
OR
Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience,
provided it demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position:
Three "3" full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position. (

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be combined to meet the total qualification requirements.
