The Social Science Program Coordinator (Employee Whole Health Coordinator) serves at the VA Medical Center, Veterans Health Administration, Department of Veterans Affairs, Salem, VA.
Duties

NOTE: This is a part-time position (twenty (20) hours/week). The salary listed represents full-time employment and will be pro-rated based on the actual number of hours worked each pay-period. Likewise, benefits and time-off accrual will also be prorated and based on your part-time work schedule.
The duties include, but may not be limited to:
Employee Whole Health Program Development:
Establishes and chairs the Employee Whole Health Committee.
Assembles a diverse planning team of interdisciplinary health professionals and representatives from various services within the medical center including labor partners.
Works with the committee to develop a charter, goals and strategic plan for the Employee Whole Health program, and ensures the plan is updated annually.
Conducts needs assessment(s) of employees to determine program needs and interests.
Develops core program components based on assessment results.
Collaborates with other services on the assessment of the health needs of employees.
Consults with specific services such as Safety.
Health Assessment and Coaching:
Implements use of available individual health assessments to determine employee wellness strengths and opportunities (i.e., Personal Health Inventory (PHI), Healthy
Living Assessment (HLA)), and tracks employee improvement and goal attainment as
appropriate.
Creates a personalized health plan (PHP) with employees who desire one by exploring the employee's mission, aspiration and purpose (MAP); creates goals and action plans with the employee based on his/her MAP.
Models' healthy behavior and provides support and encouragement to employees as it relates to behavior change.
Provides health coaching to employees on an individual basis or in a group setting.
Program Administration and Reporting:
Promotes the Employee Whole Health program to all employees on all shifts throughout the medical center and Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs). Collaborates with the Employee Whole Health Committee and Public Affairs to develop a communications and marketing plan.
Writes proposals for annual funding opportunities as made available by the national Employee Whole Health program office.
Solicits feedback from employees on needs and expectations for the Employee Whole Health Program primarily through web-based questionnaires.
Liaises with the medical center leadership team and VACO on issues of policy, planning, budgeting, and results.
Manages program budget and is the fund control point official for the Employee Whole Health program.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 7:45am - 4:30pm

Qualifications
ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in order to meet the requirements of this position.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS: having successfully completed a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study in behavioral or social science or a related discipline appropriate to this position. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED)
OR
BASIC REQUIREMENTS: having the Combination of education and experienceas described above that provided me the knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
OR
BASIC REQUIREMENTS: having completed four (4) years of appropriate experience which demonstrates that I have acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. (This experience must be indicated on your resume.)

In addition to meeting the Basic Education and/or Experience requirement and the English Language Proficiency, you must also possess Specialized Experience and/or meet the Education requirement for this position as described below.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS GS-11: having at least one (1) year of specialized experience, equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-09) in the Federal service, that is related to the work of the position and that has equipped you with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties as a Social Science Program Coordinator. Qualifying Specialized Experience includes advising, educating, and assisting with planning, developing, and implementing a newly developed program; performing data collection and analysis for assigned medical center programs; experience using a wide range of qualitative and quantitative methods for the assessment and improvement of program effectiveness; conducting need assessments of employees to determine program needs and interests; and managing program budget and responsible for purchasing a variety of products, materials, and goods used for promotional opportunities and activities. EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE GS-11: Successfully completed of three (3) full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D., or Equivalent doctoral degree in the related field of the position. Combination of Education AND Experience GS-11: Having a combination of successfully completed graduate level education (beyond the first two (2) years) and specialized experience as described above to meet total experience requirements. The education portion must include graduate courses that demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do to the work of this position. Education cannot be credited without documentation. Experience must be clearly indicated in your resume. IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements:
While some of the work is sedentary including researching, writing, program planning
and data analysis, the position will have periods of extensive walking and movement
throughout the healthcare system, prolonged standing, and transporting light to medium
weight objects. The Employee Whole Health coordinator will also be required to travel
between sites (CBOCs and outlying clinics) encompassed in the healthcare system.
