The primary purpose of this position is to support and engage in the ALO's liaison activities, while participating in the management of its administrative support, and performing assignments on a wide range of matters relating to the funding and operation of the Department.

The duties and responsibilities for a Program Specialist generally include, but are not limited to, the following: Work with the Director and Liaisons to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the Office. Manage, review, and respond to congressional inquiries. Provide analysis and recommendations for responses that impact long-range planning of program objectives. Research, analyze, and provide expert technical advice on complex program issues. Prepare reports or written analysis on DOJ policies. Review budgetary analysis, evaluations, management reports, and legislative proposals for Department and Congressional Officials.

Qualifications

This vacancy is open to RECENT GRADUATES, who have completed an academic program of study or degree program from a college, university, or vocational school within the last two years (or longer for certain veterans) from the date of this announcement. If you are appointed to a position under this program, you will need to complete a requisite number of work and training hours, based on the agreement you will complete with the hiring office and the agency Pathways program coordinator. After completing the required number of work and training hours, and meeting all other program requirements, you may be eligible for a conversion to a term or permanent appointment. In addition to the requirements above, you must also meet the specific qualifications requirements for this announcement and the occupational series and grade of this position as described in the Qualifications section below. To qualify for the position of Program Specialist (GS-0301-9), you must meet the basic qualification requirements listed below AND possess the required specialized experience specific to this series and grade. To qualify for the GS-9 level: You qualify for the GS-9 grade level if you possess one year specialize experience, equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the federal service, performing duties such as: Providing advice or guidance on projects or programs; AND Developing methods for assessing or improving programs, processes, or systems. OR Education: A master's degree (or equivalent graduate degree such as a L.L.B./J.D.) or two (2) academic years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully competed graduate school education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify for the GS-09. Only graduate education in excess of the first year may be used to qualify. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 05/02/2024.
