The VCS Central Office Headquarters, located at the Jefferson Barracks VA Medical Center in St. Louis, MO is conducting a recruitment search for a Accounting Technician II in our Finance Center. In this role, you will report to the Supervisory Accountant and play a critical role in the operations of the Finance Center.

Duties

Duties of this position include, but are not limited to: Technician Reviews and processes complex accounting transactions (e.g., deposits, over/shorts, cash movement, and transactions for/by others) ensuring the validity of supporting documentation and determining the appropriate account and methodology for processing. Technician will work closely with the Procurement Division in identifying discrepancies between vendor invoicing and contract pricing. Discrepancies will be identified and reported to the Procurement Division for correction and communicated to the vendors. Verifies accuracy and completeness of accounting data in preparation input into the General Ledger. Conducts substantial research of current accounts, historical data, source documents, etc., to develop and explain detailed information not otherwise readily available. Analyzes and summarizes data from systems, documents, and reports. Identifies significant changes and determines related transactions and causes. Identifies trends, discrepancies, and patterns for further analysis by accountants. Verifies that documentation and information are submitted per existing VCS policies and procedures. (A/P-S/R) Formulates a variety of routine financial reports and assists in year-end close-out. Technician will work closely with the Supervisor and Cash Control Team to identify banking accounts that require assistance. Technician will provide individual and team training in specific tasks and job techniques and provides on-the-job training in accordance with established procedures and practices. Answers team member's questions concerning work processes and procedures, policies, and directives. Must become familiar with the type of products per supplier and how those products are used in the canteens in the event the invoices need to be manually input into the financial systems. Errored items in the pre-processor should be reviewed, researched, and resolved daily. Will maintain current contact person for all suppliers, elevates issues as soon as they are aware of the issue. Performs all the duties indicated above for other accounting technicians in their absence as directed. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Skilled in operating a calculator, a laptop, computer printers, landline phone and facsimile machines is necessary in accomplishing the duties of the position. Skilled in performing essential functions in Microsoft Excel, Word, Teams, and Outlook. Ability to use the various SharePoint modules that are used within the Finance Center. Knowledge of automated accounting systems or suites and the technical ability to decipher and to determine when use the various modules for those systems. The ability to process transactions and corrections in those systems. Knowledge of the accounting applications to include General Ledger, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems specifically those to support automated sales and receiving, and retail management systems. Possess knowledge of or ability to learn canteen structure and the accounting codes associated with that structure to process data loads. Knowledge double entry accounting, ability to record journal entries to correct erroneously transactions, and the account reconciliation process. Willingness to learn internal controls and procedures for safe-guarding assets. Minimum Specialized Qualifying Requirements: One (1) year of experience comparable to the duties of an Accounting Technician or the educational equivalent coursework in accounting/bookkeeping practices. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume.
