About the Position: This position is located in the Patient Administration Records Department at the Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, WA.

Duties
Plan and revise work schedules and assignments to assure an even flow and distribution of work, the expeditious handling of priorities, that schedules and deadlines are met and to meet changes in workload.
Assign responsibilities to subordinates, reviews the work, and provides guidance and assistance on administrative matters.
Review medical records to ensure all diagnoses and procedures are properly documented according to program and regulatory requirements and guidelines.
Conduct quality improvement reviews of the Medicare Severity Diagnostic Related Groups Program by monitoring Medicare Severity Diagnostic Related Groups trends and identifying which groups are using excessive or inappropriate resources.
Provide advice to management and staff members on procedures and problems and provides solutions.
Coordinate and provide in-house training to both supervisory and nonsupervisory medical records staff, clerks, physicians, other health care providers on issues.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A one-year Supervisory probationary period is required if the selectee has not previously met this requirement.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- TDY may be required occassionally.
- Position requires Contract Officer Representative certification to manage coding contract personnel.
Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes coding and auditing medical records for accuracy and privacy to meet coding productivity, policy, regulatory and legal requirements; assist with training staff on medical coding. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
OR
Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Health Care Administration or Health Care Management.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.
