About the Position: This position is located at the 375th Medical Group at Scott AFB, IL. Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service. Non-Federal work experience may be creditable for leave purposes.

Duties

Perform full repair cycle of locating trouble, disassembling, repairing, cleaning, reassembling, and reinstalling a wide variety of makes and models of locking devices. Determine precise locations and angles for drilling and/or burning without harming the contents or causing irrevocable damage to the locking mechanisms or the containers. Repair, replace, or fabricate defective parts by soldering or brazing broken locking parts together, reshaping or fabricating parts. Read and interpret manufacturer drawings and diagrams necessary for minor modifications. Maintain bench stock levels of parts, materials, tools, and equipment at prescribed levels.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting up to 25 pounds may be required.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • May be required to possess and maintain a valid stateside driver's license.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work weekends and/or holidays.

Ability to perform common Locksmith duties cutting new or duplicate keys; assembling, removing, and replacing interchangeable cores; adjusting wood or metal doors to allow proper functioning of door closures and locking devices; programming electro-mechanical locks. Working under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (Screen-out Element)Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading)Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentKnowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)Trouble Shooting PHYSICAL EFFORT: The performance of duties requires pushing, reaching, walking, standing, stooping, bending and working in awkward positions. Frequently handles objects weighing up to 25 pounds and occasionally heavier. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside in generally well lighted, heated and ventilated areas. Outside work is frequently performed in doorways exposed to various types of weather. Exposed to dirt, grease, excessive noise, cuts, bruises, eye and back strains and the possibility of more serious injuries from power tools and burns from brazing and welding equipment. May be exposed to lead paint or asbestos and may be required to wear protective safety clothing and equipment.
