This National Guard position is for a AIRCRAFT MECHANIC (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D1994000 and is part of the FL 53rd IBCT, National Guard.

Duties

As a AIRCRAFT MECHANIC (TITLE 32), WG-8852-10, you will be responsible for electrical integrity of the UAS to include installation, calibration, and/or adjustment of electrical and electronic components, electrical and mechanical controls, and instruments. Responsible for assembly, pre-flight, launch and recovery, post-flight, disassembly, storage, and both scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities. Repairs or replaces such things as faulty cannon plugs and pins, bad relays, circuit breakers, switches, wiring, worn cables or bearings, locking mechanisms, indicators, timers, solenoids, regulators, and actuators. Repairs and or adjusts a variety of major interrelated and/or integrated aircraft systems, subsystems, and assemblies such as fuel and hydraulic systems, flight control systems, instrumentation systems, engine(s), landing gear assemblies, airframe, and control surfaces. As a system diagnostic specialist, Tests and troubleshoots aircraft systems; determines when the systems are operating properly or whether portions of the system must be repaired or replaced. Determines the type and extent of adjustment and alignment needed with use of specialized tools and test equipment, specific to aircraft repair work. Troubleshoots components during disassembly and functionally test components/ assemblies to determine the area of difficulty, parts required, and the methods and procedures to follow in completing work. Plans the work sequence, completes the work, perform various functional and operational tests, and make adjustments and alignments to ensure the components or assembly and its integral parts are functioning properly. PHYSICAL EFFORT: The Tactical UAS is typically a smaller aircraft, however, most require 2-man lift procedures for loading, unloading, and moving the aircraft. The RQ-7B Shadow weighs approximately 380lbs with typical mission equipment. Work assignments require moderate to strenuous effort. Incumbent must climb, bend, stoop, crawl, and stand for prolonged periods on concrete or metal surfaces. The incumbent frequently lifts parts and equipment that weigh up to 9 kilograms (20 pounds). WORKING CONDITIONS: Work will typically be performed in a motor-pool or garage type facility. Maintenance operations may involve unloading the aircraft from its vehicle storage, setting up the vehicle, conducting maintenance checks and services, preparing the launch catapult, loading the UAS onto the catapult (2-man lift) and preparing it for launch, launch, recovery, disassembly, and storage in a variety of environments. The incumbent may be exposed to minor burns, falls, cuts, and bruises from using hand tools and potentially electrical burns or shocks from high voltage equipment. As a consequence, the incumbent will be expected to conduct their activities with all applicable Personal Protective Equipment and IAW published standards and safety practices.

Qualifications

AREA OF CONSIDERATION: This position is in the Excepted Federal Civil Service "under the authority of 32 U.S.C. 709", and is open to Category 1 & 3 Only. Category 1: All permanent/indefinite (T32 and T5) technicians employed by the agency with dual FL National Guard military membership; Category 3: All current military members of the Florida National Guard. PCS: Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs, Recruitment or Relocation Incentive MAY be authorized. Authorization for payment of PCS expenses, Recruitment or Relocation Incentive will be granted ONLY after determination is made that payment is in the best interest of the Florida National Guard. MILITARY GRADES: Warrant Officers/Enlisted: E4 thru CW2 GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must have experience or training which has provided you with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, components and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications and skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: WG-10 must have at least 18 months experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting, and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification. Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow. Must have the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container.
