Duties

The Duty Locations are Mount Rainier National Park: Longmire The duties for this position: Works from plans, specifications, and/or verbal description. Works as a journeyman, constructs, alters, modifies and/or repairs a wide range of features in buildings, quarters, backcountry structures and other facilities. Constructs storage areas, workrooms, and offices within existing buildings including framework, rafters, joists, insulation, sheet rock, paneling, doors, windows, and flooring. Corrects and maintains historic building features and fixtures and is able to finish products with precise, accurate dimensions and acceptable appearance. Performs maintenance, repair, restoration, and stabilization of cultural resources. Builds stone masonry walls to duplicate or match original masonry. Removes portions of standing walls and stabilizes remaining historic fabric by capping, veneering and mortaring. Installs, modifies, and repairs new and existing utility, supply, and disposal systems and equipment such as sewage, water, oil, and gas distribution systems and water closets, tubs, fire sprinkler systems, and showers, and lay out of such things as angles, arcs, and circles. Lays sewer tile, replaces stools, lavatories; and replaces pumps and water meters. Performs painting duties with little oversight and/or review of work during progress or upon completion. Paints, decorates, and refinishes a variety of interior and exterior surfaces of offices and buildings, family dwellings, other structures, finishing, and equipment. Completes all painting, varnishing, etc. functions to include marbling, graining, speckling, tinting and toning of paint, and matching existing colors. Performs secondary maintenance duties involving the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, roofing, HVAC systems, and welding. Physical Demands: Physical effort is heavy to moderate and required occasional lifting or handling of objects or materials up to 60 lbs unassisted, following proper lifting procedures to avoid injury. Frequently required to stand while working, climb ladders or scaffolding, and bend stoop, climb and work in awkward positions. May hike long distances, up to 15 miles carrying a backpack and work gear. Working Conditions: Exposed to a variety of seasonal weather conditions while working outdoors (temperatures -40 to 90+ degrees). Subject to danger of falling from ladders or scaffolding. Exposed to dust, dirt, wind, and rain. May work with dangerous chemicals and around moving equipment, plants, solvents etc. May be exposed to electrical shocks and biting insects.

Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprinting reading). Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment. Knowledge of Materials.
