About the Position: The Supervisory Transportation Specialist is the top level advisor to the Battalion Commander and has delegation of authority to act for the Battalion Commander on all matters related to movement of cargo through the Battalion's area of responsibility (AOR).
Duties
Primarily responsible for overall transportation management, planning, safety, security, fiduciary and personal property services for Department of Defense and other Federal Agencies within the Battalion’s Detachment.
Evaluates the traffic management and terminal operation program’s effectiveness and ensures that prompt action is taken to correct deficiencies, improve or streamline operations, and maintain peak efficiency and productivity at minimum cost.
Assists in determining areas of assignments and delegations to Detachment Supervisors.
Directs special studies related to the mission of the Battalion/Detachments involving all aspects of movement of import and export cargo (such as loading, documentation and shipment).
Furnishes technical traffic management and terminal operations advice and assistance on equipment capabilities, transit time, alternate modes, and the general position of import and export transportation assets.
Performs the full range of supervisory duties and responsibilities.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
- Position designated as "Key" and shall not be vacated during a national emergency/mobilization. Must be exempted from recall to active duty and receive training to ensure mission accomplishment of sustaining base operations during mobilization.
- This position requires you to submit a Public Financial Disclosure Report (OGE 278) or a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report (OGE450) upon entry, and annually thereafter.
- This is a Term position scheduled not to exceed 13 months.
- This is an obligated position. An obligated position is one to which an employee has statutory restoration rights or entitlement based on active military service, recovery from a compensable injury, or return rights based on an overseas tour.
- This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Utilizing a wide range of transportation concepts, principles, and methodology of transportation operations; 2) Providing technical transportation management advise on complex transportation movement techniques; 3) Managing full range of import and export cargo movements. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
