About the Position: This position is located at the Additive Manufacturing Center within the Rock Island Arsenal Joint Manufacturing and Technology Center (RIA-JMTC).

Duties

Plan and lay out work for assigned operations, according to specifications, blueprints, sketches, work order or other specifications. Determine which machine tool would best be used for each operation to be performed, which attachments are to be used on each machine, and the proper sequence of operations on each machine. Set up and operate most types of conventional machine tools such as lathes, vertical and horizontal boring mills, bench, plane or universal milling machines. Make new job set-ups on a variety of different types of machinery involving accurate alignment in order to maintain specified over-all tolerances. Plan work from layout to verify set ups prior to running first piece for assigned operations. Set up and operates the N/C machine to complete the work assignment.

  • Possess and maintain the physical ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.

Working Conditions: Works in a well-lighted, heated, ventilated shop with concrete floors. Exposed to dust from grinding, oil from machines, dirt, heat, noises, and fumes. Subject to the hazards of burns from hot metal chips, dust, cuts, bruises, injuries to hands from use of machines and hand tools, skin irritations from contact with coolants, lubricants, and abrasive compounds, and to strains from infrequent moving, lifting, and handling of heavy items, Wears safety glasses, safety shoes, and other safety apparel and equipment as required.
