Duties

Install portable aviation and other fuel handling facilities where there is no commercial fuel available. Ensure all sites have all required equipment. Test and troubleshoot sites. Demobilize fuel sites by retrieving and closing them. Respond to incidents where there is a leak or failure in any fuel containment device, fix or replace the leaking vessel and remove the product. Refurbish fuel handling equipment by rebuilding and performance testing pumps, filters, meters, kits, hoses, storage tanks, containment dikes, etc. Operate 3 ton and aviation refueling trucks; as well as material handling equipment such as gasoline or diesel-powered forklifts up to 8,000 lb capacity and articulating all terrain forklifts to 20,000 lb capacity. Sample and test aviation fuels to assure that that clean, dry "on specification" fuel of the appropriate type is supplied. Train others and provide refresher training on fueling operations.

  • You cannot hold an active real estate license: nor can you have an interest or hold stocks in firms with interest in Federal Lands.

  • Appointment will be subject to a favorably adjudicated background/suitability investigation/determination.

  • This position requires regular and recurring overtime and shift work.
  • You must be 18 years of age or older to be assigned to a hazardous position.
  • You must possess or have the ability to obtain a Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with both Tanker and Hazmat endorsements and a DOT Medical Card.
  • Must be able to obtain a 40-Hour HAZWOPER Training Certificate and annual refresher and must be able to obtain Army Hazardous Waste Subject Matter Expert Training.
  • May require a one-year probationary period.
  • This is a Drug Testing Designated Position. You will be required to submit to screening for illegal drug use and pass prior to appointment. This position is subject to random testing for illegal drug use.
  • You must pass a pre-employment physical. You must have good eye/hand coordination for operating equipment and can differentiate basic colors or shades of colors.

Qualifications

Screen-out Element: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision as indicated by performing tasks related to basic plumbing, basic maintenance, working around fuels, working around aircraft, fighting wildland fire, basic mechanics, or driving a forklift. OPM Job Qualifications System for Trades and Labor Occupations will be used in determining your qualifications. There is no specific length of training or experience required; however, you must be able to demonstrate through experience shown in the resume materials, that you possess the skill level that has equipped you with the particular job elements to successfully perform the duties of Fuel Distribution System Worker (MVO) without more than normal supervision. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Physical Demands: Performs work on hard surfaces and in work areas that require you to stand, bend, stoop, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. May be required to work at a rapid pace for long periods of time. Frequently lifts and carries supplies, materials and equipment that weigh in excess of 100 lbs. Work Environment: Work is accomplished indoors and out, day or night, in all weather conditions, in any location of the State. The work is dirty, dusty, and greasy; wet, hot, cold, or any combination of the above. Frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, working from ladders, or injury from material handling equipment. Will fly to remote areas of Alaska via various types of fixed wing and rotor wing aircraft in all types of weather.
