Incumbent is required to operate a 2 ½ ton truck, with a gross vehicle weight of approximately 19,200 pounds, in order to carry out the functions of the Laundry Unit. Incumbent transports linen, uniforms, and patient clothing essential to the operation of this Medical Center. Incumbent is responsible for the protection of linen, uniforms, and patient clothing from damage or contamination during delivery.
Duties
Operates laundry trucks to transport laundry from medical center laundry to patient care buildings.
Possess and maintain valid state driver's license.
Deliver clean linen, uniforms, and patient clothing essential to the operation of this Medical Center and return soiled linen items to the laundry for laundering.
Negotiate city traffic, state roads, highways and perform routine driver's maintenance on vehicle in operation. The incumbent must be knowledgeable in diesel engine operation, which includes draining, thawing, and replacing fuel filters.
Use equipment consistent with operating instructions and safety regulations, and specifically to operate diesel powered vehicles with heavy loads and with the ability to safely to load and unload rolling stock from cargo transport vehicles.
Maneuver a 2 ½ ton truck, with a gross vehicle weight of approximately 19,200 pounds within close tolerances when driving and backing over uneven ground and in narrow or congested areas, between buildings and other vehicles, and when positioning vehicles at loading docks.
Inspect the vehicle to be sure it is clean, safe and in safe operating condition.
Climb in and out of vehicles, and exert moderate to heavy physical effort in climbing on or in to load or tie down cargo.
Operate vehicles in all types of weather and is exposed to the danger of serious accidents. Incumbent may be exposed to dirt and fumes, and to the possibility of cuts, bruises, and broken bones as a result of accidents while driving or from falling objects when loading/unloading the vehicle and can verbalize accident reporting procedures.
